A trip to the boys’ state tennis tournament was the cherry on top of a steadfast career for Marshalltown senior Caleb Rasmussen.

Rasmussen and junior Elliot Kodis were unanimous selections to the all-Iowa Alliance Conference North Division’s first team after strong spring seasons for the Bobcats.

Senior Kyle Smith was named to the all-conference second team as well as Marshalltown completed the year with a 10-6 dual meet record.

Rasmussen was a second-team selection last spring before getting promoted to the No. 1 singles position, where he posted a 9-9 record that was good for the 13th-most wins in Class 2A. He finished his career with a 25-11 singles mark and teamed with junior Evan Roush to reach the state doubles tournament at the conclusion of the season.

Kodis collected his first all-conference honor after leading all of 2A with 14 wins at the No. 2 singles spot, going 14-4 to improve to 27-7 for his career.

Rasmussen and Kodis both were unanimous selections to the seven-man first team, and Smith was a unanimous choice for the second team.

Smith went 11-7 in singles during his senior season, moving between the Nos. 3 and 4 positions, to compile a 22-9 career record. This marked his first all-conference tennis honor as well.

Marshalltown finished third in the Alliance North with a 1-2 dual record, coming in ahead of Fort Dodge (0-3) but behind Mason City (3-0) and Ames (2-1). Mason City (16-1) advanced to the state team tournament before bowing out in the first round.

Starting at $4.75/week.
