Bobcats finish off season sweep of Lincoln

Madrigal

DES MOINES — Briley Danielson pitched a three-hitter in the second game to highlight the Marshalltown softball team’s doubleheader sweep of Des Moines Lincoln on Monday at the Kurtz Opportunity Center.

The Bobcats (15-18) claimed the four-game season series by winning twice on Monday by scores of 7-4 and 9-1, running the series streak to six in a row.

In the opening game, Olivia Wise had three hits to lead the Bobcats’ 12-hit attack as Marshalltown scored in its first five at-bats.

Danielson drove home Bristol Ealy with a sacrifice fly in the first inning; Leah Graves reached on an error and scored on a passed ball in the second; Abby Janssen tripled and scored on a Danielson single, and Danielson scored on an Emma Stupp hit in the third; Kendall Brummel reached on an error before three-straight singles by Ealy, Janssen and Danielson for two runs in the fourth; and Wise and Hanna Osgood put together back-to-back hits to make it 7-4 in the fifth.

Stupp struck out nine in the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks. Wise was 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Ealy, Janssen, Danielson and Osgood had two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, the Bobcats led 6-0 before Des Moines Lincoln (4-25) got on the board with its only run. Marshalltown responded with a three-spot in the sixth to cinch the win.

Danielson surrendered just three hits and an unearned run, striking out eight but walking six for the win.

Erandy Ibarra Madrigal led another 12-hit performance by the Bobcats with three hits, including a three-run triple in the top of the first inning to kickstart the team to victory.

Ealy ripped an RBI double in the fourth, Brummel had a two-run single in the fifth, and MHS salted the win away with three runs on five hits in the sixth. Stupp’s two-run single scored Danielson and Lauren O’Neal, and three-straight singles for Madrigal, Wise and Osgood got another run home.

Ealy contributed two doubles, Stupp scored three times, while Wise was 1-for-1 and hit by the pitch three times. Lincoln’s Sarah Vrba struck out 10 but walked seven in the loss.

The Bobcats host Mason City for a doubleheader on Wednesday before visiting Waterloo East for a twinbill on Thursday.
