For the fourth time in as many years, Beckham DeSotel has been named first-team all-conference.

DeSotel, a West Marshall junior, was voted to the Heart of Iowa Conference’s top squad by the league’s coaches for the fourth year in a row, acknowledging his consistency and continued growth on the diamond.

DeSotel was one of four Trojans honored with selection to the all-HOAIC teams, joined by four-time honoree Evan Siegert and a pair of newcomers — senior Hunter Polley and freshman Riley Hanford.

DeSotel scored first-team selection again after leading the Trojans in nearly every offensive and pitching category in the books, highlighted by a .467 batting average and a whopping 52 strikeouts from the mound.

DeSotel ranked fourth in the conference in batting average, was eighth in doubles (5), fourth in home runs (3), 16th in RBIs (13), and fourth in on-base percentage (.586) during league games.

On the mound, the Trojan standout was second in innings pitched (36), first in strikeouts, fourth in opponent’s batting average (.186), eighth in earned run average (2.20), and 10th in WHIP (1.11). He was 3-2 in league games, regularly getting the call against the conference’s top teams.

West Marshall tied for fourth place in the nine-team Heart of Iowa, going 9-7 in league play. Roland-Story and Saydel tied for the title at 15-1, followed by PCM (10-6), and West Marshall and Grand View Christian (9-7).

Siegert finished with a .286 batting average in conference play on his way to second-team honors. He added five doubles, a team-high 17 runs scored and a .435 on-base percentage. He was 8-for-8 in stolen bases and also pitched 16 2/3 innings, recording 25 strikeouts and a 2-1 record against conference foes.

Siegert was a first-teamer as a sophomore and an honorable mention pick as a freshman and a junior for West Marshall.

Polley emerged as a pivotal part of the Trojans’ pitching staff, also throwing 16 2/3 innings in league play. He was 1-3 with a 5.04 ERA while also contributing two doubles, nine runs scored and eight RBIs while roaming center field.

Hanford’s first all-conference honor comes on the heels of a strong season behind the plate. He also hit .222 with five doubles, nine runs scored and 10 RBIs, finishing with a .426 on-base percentage.
