Bobcat boys golf 11th in daunting opener

WEST DES MOINES -- A star-studded season opener saw the Marshalltown boys' golf team take its first steps against a daunting field and challenging course right out of the gate.

The Bobcats claimed 11th place out of 17 teams on Monday at the Warrior Invitational at Glen Oaks Country Club, shooting four strokes better than the team's 2025 season average.

Marshalltown totaled a 329 team score to finish near the middle of a massive event. Dallas Center-Grimes got the team title with a 294 score, followed by Dowling Catholic (295) and both North Scott and Southeast Polk (296).

The Bobcats finished in the mix with the likes of Waterloo West (315), Cedar Falls and Sioux City East (324), and Ankeny Centennial (331).

MHS was led by junior Joe Greazel, who finished tied for 25th place with his round of 6-over-par 77. Greazel recorded one of the team's three birdies on the day, tallying his on the first hole, but scoring opportunities escaped the Bobcats in their season opener.

Fellow junior Gavin Misek was next in for MHS, shooting an 82 to tie for 47th. Parker Christen, a senior, shot 84, and junior Bryson Payne posted an 86 to round out the Bobcats' scoring.

Isaac Anderson added a 90 and Jacob Seberger shot 94 for the Bobcats.

Waukee's Jonathan Ward won meet medalist honors with his 4-under 67, followed by Waterloo West's Jay McCausland and Dowling's Elijah Anderson at 70.

Marshalltown is back in action Wednesday with the the Jesse Peck Invite at Briarwood Club of Ankeny, which tees up at 9 a.m.
