FORT DODGE -- A 5-1 singles advantage paved the way to the second Iowa Alliance Conference win of the season for the Marshalltown girls' tennis team, which took down host Fort Dodge 7-4 on Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (4-4, 2-2) got back to even for the season with Tuesday's triumph, jumping out to a big lead through singles play before putting up the decisive sixth win to start doubles action. Marshalltown's No. 1 doubles team of Kate Sandvick and Kaelyn Coleman carved out a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the Dodgers' Mia Carpenter and Evah Nostrom for the finishing point.
MHS added another doubles win at No. 2, as Hanna Osgood and Trista Bratland scored a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Teagan Loots and Calliegh Zimmerman.
Sandvick scored two shutout wins on the night, starting the meet with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Carpenter. Coleman chased off Nostrom 6-3, 6-3, and Osgood won 6-4, 6-1 over Loots at No. 3.
"Kate Sandvick was locked in from the jump and served up four bagels," said MHS head coach James Christensen.
Karolina Cross came away with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Brooklyn Kaloupek, and Bratland scored a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 against Genevieve Piton.
"Karolina Cross battled through an early deficit and a sore wrist to come up with a huge singles win that put us in a position to win," Christensen added. "Coleman, Bratland and Osgood also showed their versatility and perseverance coming up with two wins apiece."
The Bobcats are back in action on Friday with a triangular at Dallas Center-Grimes that includes Southeast Polk. Start time is noon at the Oak View Middle School tennis courts in Grimes.
