AMES -- Iowa State running back Cameron Pettaway has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Paul Hornung Award, given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.

Pettaway, a transfer from Bowling Green, was the 2025 MAC Freshman of the Year, a FWAA Freshman All-American and a first-team all-Mid-American Conference selection as a kick returner a year ago. He led the nation in kick return average last season, averaging 33 yards per return, and returned the season's opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.

The redshirt sophomore running back also carried the ball 72 times for 365 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and made eight receptions for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Pettaway was also featured on the 2026 Jet Award preseason watch list, which is given to the nation's top return specialist each year.
