Local hurlers return to All-State

For the second year in a row, East Marshall pitcher Peyton Grabenbauer is an all-stater.
Grabenbauer was one of six local softball players selected to the Iowa Girls' Coaches Association's All-State softball teams, joined by a pair of Mustang teammates and a cross-county rival.
Grabenbauer, the lone senior on East Marshall's regional finalist, was a repeat selection to the Class 2A first team after leading the Mustangs to a 23-10 record and a runner-up finish in the North Iowa Cedar League.
West Marshall junior pitcher Aubree Greenwood earned 2A second-team honors a year after making it on the 3A first team, helping West Marshall to a 23-11 record and a trip to the regional finals.
East Marshall junior third baseman Ashtyn Wheater and freshman catcher Gianna Boswell both earned their first all-state honors, scoring third-team selection in 2A, while sophomore pitchers Eden Ladehoff of BCLUW and Riah Boege from GMG were both honorable mention picks.
Grabenbauer powered East Marshall from the pitcher's circle by racking up 261 strikeouts in 191 innings pitched. She finished the season with a 2.02 earned run average in addition to being one of the team's top hitters. Grabenbauer batted .392 with 16 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 39 RBIs.
Greenwood got 159 strikeouts in 171 2/3 innings in the circle for West Marshall, compiling a 2.37 ERA and a 19-9 record. She also batted .299 with four doubles, one home run and 19 RBIs at the plate.
Boswell played catcher and batted atop the East Marshall lineup, finishing the season with a .421 batting average, 13 doubles, three triples, 39 runs scored and 22 RBIs. She added 17 stolen bases.
Wheater also provided pop at the heart of the Mustangs' batting order, hitting .389 with nine doubles, one triple, four home runs, 31 RBIs and 20 runs scored. She had a .496 on-base percentage, leading the team with 20 total walks.
Ladehoff led BCLUW with a .475 batting average and a .508 on-base percentage, contributing six doubles, one triple, one home run and nine RBIs while scoring 10 times. In the pitcher's circle, Ladehoff hammered out 154 strikeouts in just 90 innings, compiling a 1.87 ERA and a 6-7 record.
Boege handled nearly all the pitching for GMG, going 9-13 with 269 strikeouts in just 139 1/3 innings pitched. She had a 2.56 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched). Offensively, Boege totaled a .297 batting average with 11 doubles, one home run and 13 RBIs.
Grabenbauer, Boswell, Wheater, Greenwood and West Marshall junior second baseman Jenna Randall were all named to the all-Northeast District team. Ladehoff was an all-Northeast District pick in 1A, while Boege was named to the all-North Central district squad.
West Marshall seniors Rachel and Riley Randall both were named to the IGCA Academic All-State team, as was GMG senior Rhianna Murty.
