JANESVILLE -- Treyvon Herron rushed for 145 yards and four touchdowns, returned two punts for scores and threw for another as the Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team drubbed Janesville 56-6 in Friday night's 8-Man opener.
Herron had 11 carries and 145 of G-R's 240 rushing yards in the win. Herron also had four punt returns for 166 yards and two TDs, and he threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Laken Thesing as the Rebels racked up 365 yards of offense to Janesville's 84.
G-R quarterback Bennett Sieh was 5-for-7 passing for 81 yards and a touchdown to Kooper Larsen, while also rushing for 72 yards.
Brayden Utter led the Rebel defense with seven tackles.
Janesville's lone touchdown came on a 78-yard kickoff return for Judah Hovenga.
Tigers too much for Trojans
STATE CENTER -- South Hardin quarterback Braden Weig threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers toppled the West Marshall football team 34-0 in Friday's Week 1 opener.
Weig was 15-for-22 passing with touchdown passes to four different receivers. Casey Williamson had five catches for 115 yards and a score, and Joshua Spindler added three receptions for 84 yards and a TD.
West Marshall was limited to 148 yards of total offense in its season debut. Senior quarterback Blayk Hart was 5-for-15 passing for 85 yards with two interceptions. Teegun Edler hauled in all five completions for the Trojans.
Hart rushed 16 times for 43 yards and Turner DeRossett added nine carries for 20 yards for West Marshall.
Joe Kielman led the Trojan defense with seven tackles, while Dalton Eldridge added six more. Edler had six tackles and an interception, while Beckham DeSotel made 5.5 tackles with 3.5 stops for loss.
STC netters top Gilbert
TAMA -- The South Tama volleyball team dropped its first set of the fall before rallying to beat Gilbert 3-1 in Thursday's season opener. The Trojans took the non-conference contest by scores of 10-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18.
Paisley Bro led the Trojans with 13 kills, while Stella Zmolek had seven kills and Scout Ridout had five. Maylee Rucker tallied 19 assists and Layla Pansegrau added 13 more.
Kenzi Boriskey led the STC defense with two blocks while Rucker had another. Sydney Arp and Ridout shared the lead with six digs apiece.
The Trojans totaled 18 service aces, led by Ridout's five, but had 20 service errors as a team.
