DES MOINES -- The Marshalltown volleyball team mowed down Des Moines North on Thursday night, topping the Polar Bears 25-17, 25-15, 25-9 in an Iowa Alliance Conference clash.
The Bobcats (3-4, 3-1) pouned out a .263 hitting percentage on the night, led by Brooklyn Smith's 16 kills and .556 efficiency. Morgan Hilderbrand added nine kills, while setter Lauren O'Neal had five kills to go with her 30 assists. Avery Polley pitched in with three kills while Lorelai Holloway and Bella Avise added two each.
O'Neal led the MHS defense as well with nine digs while Collins Grant, Smith and Polley had four apiece.
Marshalltown carved up North (0-5, 0-3) to the tune of 14 service aces, led by Avise going 10-for-10 with three aces. Grant got three aces on 11-of-12 serving, while O'Neal was 16-of-17 with one ace. Anela Holloway had two aces on just five serves.
The Bobcats play in Southeast Polk's Metro Classic Volleyball Tournament on Saturday in Pleasant Hill.
