DES MOINES -- The Marshalltown volleyball team shook off a three-game skid by sweeping aside Des Moines East in three sets Tuesday in Iowa Alliance Conference play.
The Bobcats bulldozed the Scarlets 25-11, 25-16, 25-16, to notch their second league win of the season.
Marshalltown (2-4, 2-1) was led by sophomore Brooklyn Smith, who scored 12 of the team's 29 kills and on only 20 swings. Senior outside hitter Bella Avise racked up seven kills, and senior setter Lauren O'Neal tallied 23 assists in all.
The Bobcat defense was led by Collins Grant and Morgan Hilderbrand with six digs apiece. Smith, O'Neal and Kendall Brummel each had a block as well.
O'Neal served 19-for-19 with three aces to pace MHS. Avery Polley was 15-for-17 with an ace while also contributing three kills and four digs.
Siana Farley, Alexis Jeruto, Hayden Hajek and Nora Baugh had four kills apiece to lead Des Moines East (1-3, 0-2).
The Bobcats are back on the road Thursday for a trip to Des Moines North.
