The Marshalltown volleyball team had a rough night against a trio of ranked opponents during the Apgar Quad on Thursday night inside the Roundhouse.
The Bobcats suffered three straight-set defeats on their home court, falling 25-4, 25-18 to Class 5A No. 2 Dallas Center-Grimes, 25-18, 25-16 to 4A No. 14 Waverly-Shell Rock, and 25-13, 25-8 to 3A No. 4 Solon.
Marshalltown was led on the night by senior setter Lauren O'Neal, who totaled 26 assists at the center of the offense. She added four kills, 13 digs and 19-for-22 serving with two aces.
Brooklyn Smith led the Bobcats with 10 kills, two blocks and five service aces. Avery Polley totaled six kills and 11 digs, and Bella Avise had six kills, 10 digs and served 7-for-7 with an ace.
Morgan Hilderbrand paced the MHS defense with 19 digs, adding four kills and an ace. Collins Grant had 16 digs and served 11-for-11.
The Bobcats are on the road three times this week, starting Tuesday at Des Moines East.
