CEDAR RAPIDS -- The Marshalltown football team was stifled by Cedar Rapids Kennedy for the second year in a row, suffering a 57-0 shutout on Friday night at Kingston Stadium.
The Bobcats were within 7-0 after the opening quarter before turning the ball twice in the second quarter, relinquishing a safety and having a punt blocked. The host Cougars (3-2) scored 29 points in the period and pulled away for good.
Marshalltown (1-4) was limited to 126 yards of total offense. Senior running back Tyler Englund finished with 17 carries for 53 yards, Faith Banissan had six carries for 31 yards, and Innocent Ishangulungu added three carries for 22 yards.
The Bobcats were held to 3.7 yards per carry and completed just one pass, with Larrs Schoenfelder connecting with Garrett Thede for a 9-yard gain in the first quarter.
MHS earned only seven first downs in the defeat.
Kennedy tailback Damarian Orr rushed 13 times for 143 of his team's 258 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Cael Fairley completed 7-of-9 passes for 126 yards and three scores, with Drew McKowen catching three balls for 84 yards and two scores.
Kennedy totaled 384 yards of total offense in the win. The Cougars beat the Bobcats 49-0 in last year's meeting.
Marshalltown is back home this week for a game against Class 5A No. 10 Waukee (3-2).
