WEST DES MOINES -- All it took was some adverse conditions to bring out the absolute best of the Bobcats.

The Marshalltown boys' golf team carded its lowest score since 2021 at Monday's Valley Classic, shooting a collective 297 to claim fifth place out of 11 scoring teams at Willow Creek Golf Course.

MHS junior Joe Greazel continued to bring home the hardware, shooting a 2-under-par 69 for fourth place, and the Bobcats' four scoring rounds all finished in the top 40. Greazel carded four birdies on the day, including consecutive birdies on Nos. 10 and 11 after eight straight pars to round out a 1-under 34 on the front nine.

Norwalk's Dayton Poen shot 4-under 67 for medalist honors, helping to lead the Warriors to first place with a 275 team total. Waukee was second at 285, Waukee Northwest was third at 290, and Dowling Catholic finished just ahead of Marshalltown at 293.

Gavin Misek tied for 17th place with his round of 3-over 74, and senior Jacob Seberger shot 75 to tie for 21st place. Bryson Payne, also a junior, shot 79 to give the Bobcats four scoring rounds under 80.

Korben McKibben came in with an 82 and Parker Christen shot 83 as well for MHS.

The Bobcats are back on the links Wednesday at the Southeast Polk Invitational at Copper Creek Golf Club in Pleasant Hill.
