Greazel gets gold in Joe August Invite

The always-daunting competition of the Joe August Invitational was met head-on by the Marshalltown boys' golf team.
Especially junior Joe Greazel.
Greazel carded two birdies and two bogeys -- all on the back nine -- to land medalist honors at the 11-team tournament Thursday at Elmwood Country Club. He shot an even-par round of 35 on the front and added another 35 on the back to beat the rest of the field by two strokes.
Kota Bentz of Norwalk was second with a 2-over-72, and Avery Van Zelderan of Dallas Center-Grimes took third with the same score.
"Joe started out the day as solid as can be with 10 straight pars before making bogey on 11," said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. "He made a great bounce-back birdie after sticking one to a few feet on 12. That's the kind of next shot mentality we want to see out of our leaders."
The Bobcats finished fifth in the final team standings, carding a 313. Dallas Center-Grimes won with a 291, Norwalk was second at 296, and Indianola was third at 307. Urbandale shot 308 to hold off host Marshalltown for fourth place.
"Elmwood always provides a strong test and I thought our guys did a good job adjusting to the softer conditions throughout the day," said Johnson.
Marshalltown's Gavin Misek tied for 19th place with his round of 78, while fellow junior Korben McKibben shot 81 to tie for 32nd place and senior Jacob Seberger carded 84 to share 45th place out of 72 golfers.
Bryson Payne (87) and Parker Christen (91) also competed for the Bobcats.
Marshalltown goes out on the road for the remainder of the regular season, starting with Monday's Valley Classic at Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines.
