The Marshalltown girls' swimming and diving team improved to 2-2 with consecutive wins this week, beating Des Moines East and Cedar Rapids Washington.
The Bobcats went on the road for the first time on Tuesday and defeated Des Moines East. Due to incomplete results, the score was unavailable, but the Bobcats won 10 of 11 events to cruise to the Iowa Alliance Conference victory.
Leia Hernandez claimed individual wins in the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events, while Emma Case claimed the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Addison Elmore took the 50 freestyle, Drea Ceren was first to the wall in the 500 freestyle, and Adele Beek touched up first in the 100 breaststroke.
The Bobcats claimed both freestyle relays as well. In the 200 free relay, it was Adele Beek, Lydia Beek, Hernandez and Alex Lasack teaming up for the win in 1 minute, 54.58 seconds, and the quartet of Ceren, Case, Elmore and Hernandez closed the meet with a winning time of 4:07.22 in the 400 freestyle relay.
In Thursday's home meet with Cedar Rapids Washington, the Bobcats rallied over the final three events to hold off the Warriors 96-87 in non-conference action.
Marshalltown opened the dual by winning five of the first six events, but Washington (0-4) countered to claim the next three. A strong run over the final three races helped the Bobcats maintain their early advantage for the win.
Case claimed two event victories for MHS, winning the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Hernandez topped the field in the 50 freestyle, Elmore won the 100 backstroke and Adele Beek took the 100 breaststroke.
Harlie Thatcher ran away with the diving competition as well, and MHS claimed the first and last relays.
Marshalltown's early lead got a big boost from the winning 200 medley relay squad of Ceren, Adele Beek, Case and Hernandez, while a third-place finish in the same race from Lasack, Lydia Beek, Zoey Pals and Silvia Mullen made for a scoring boost.
The Bobcats needed to finish in at least second place in the 400 freestyle relay to take the meet, and the foursome of Hernandez, Case, Ceren and Elmore won the race comfortably with a time of 3:57.09.
Marshalltown is back in the pool on Tuesday for a home meet with Des Moines Roosevelt.
