Navarre returns to MCC basketball as assistant

Marquis Navarre is an MCC Tiger again.

A former team captain for the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team, Navarre has rejoined the Tigers as an assistant coach.

The Oceanside, Calif., native, Navarre's collegiate career began as a guard for MCC, where he was one of the team's top playmaking threats. During his time with the program, Navarre averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, earning second-team All-Region XI honors.

Navarre continued his basketball career at Montana State University, where he started in 56 of 57 career games played. He was a key contributor for the Bobcats, highlighted by a senior season in which he averaged 10.7 points, 2.9 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from 3-point range. He earned honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference selection.

After completing his collegiate career, Navarre played professionally overseas with stints in China, Australia and Malaysia. He also spent two seasons playing in Tasmania, where he earned Team MVP honors both years.

Navarre brings extensive experience as a collegiate, professional, and international player, coach, and player-development trainer. He founded Marquis Basketball and has operated the player-development program in Sydney, Australia, since 2016, working with athletes on individual skill development and helping them pursue opportunities at the next level.

Navarre gained collegiate coaching experience as a volunteer assistant coach at Cal State San Marcos. His background spans more than a decade of international player development, working with athletes from youth basketball through the professional level.

Navarre brings a unique perspective to MCC as a former Tiger who experienced firsthand the path from junior college basketball to NCAA Division I and the pros. Having played alongside MCC head coach Ryan Flack during his time in Marshalltown, Navarre also returns as a coach, creating a direct connection between the Tigers' past and future.
