CEDAR FALLS -- The Northern Iowa men's basketball team on Tuesday announced the addition of a fifth true road game for the upcoming 2026-27 against Michigan State.
The Panthers will visit the Spartans on Friday, Nov. 13 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan. UNI's fully updated schedule for the 2026-27 season can be found below.
November's matchup will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2010 NCAA Tournament when the Panthers and Spartans clashed in the Sweet Sixteen in St. Louis, Missouri. Michigan State that meeting by a score of 59-52, the only matchup in the series between the two teams.
Michigan State finished the 2025-26 season with a 27-8 record and 15-5 mark in the Big Ten Conference. Led by Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo, the Spartans reached the Sweet Sixteen of last year's NCAA Tournament after tying for second in the Big Ten standings and falling to UCLA in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
Northern Iowa, meanwhile, begins its first season under new head coach Kyle Green after posting a 23-13 record and 11-9 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers, seeded sixth at the conference tournament in St. Louis, became the lowest seeded and first team to open play on Thursday to win the league's postseason championship. UNI's 2025-26 campaign ultimately ended with a first round NCAA Tournament loss, also to St. John's.
