CONRAD -- The Class 1A No. 9 BCLUW volleyball team bounced Baxter on Thursday night in Iowa Star Conference South Division play, beating the Bolts 25-20, 25-13, 25-15.
Kennedy Davis powered the Comets (8-7, 2-0) to victory with 14 kills, and Raine Sireno scored 12 more for the attack. Cambria Wayman racked up eight kills and Kylie Pekarek chipped in four, as setter Sally Ramirez finished with 32 assists.
Brinna Benson led the BCLUW defense with 19 digs, while Pekarek had the team's only block against the Bolts (4-8, 1-1). Ramirez served 15-of-15, Davis was 9-of-10 with two aces, and Wayman went 8-for-10 with a team-high three aces.
Spartans stop Mustangs in 3
LE GRAND -- The Class 2A No. 2 Grundy Center volleyball team was too much for East Marshall as the Spartans scored a 3-0 sweep in Thursday's NICL West Division clash, 25-10, 25-7, 25-10.
East Marshall (12-7, 1-3) was led by Natalie Condon and Ashtyn Wheater with two kills apiece, and Marisa Cahalan had one kill. Setter Mya Gould got five assists and was 7-of-7 serving with an ace.
Libby Atcher and Cahalan had 11 digs each to lead the Mustang defense, while Cahalan, Condon and Deliah Conner had two blocks apiece.
Grundy Center (16-2, 3-0) was led by Ryanne Brubaker with 12 kills and four blocks.
South Tama rolls Raiders
WILLIAMSBURG -- The South Tama volleyball team won its sixth-straight match, sweeping Williamsburg 3-0 in Tuesday's WaMaC Conference clash, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.
The Trojans (15-6, 1-1) picked up their first league win led by 15 kills from Stella Zmolek and 10 more by Paisley Bro. Maylee Rucker contributed six kills and a team-high 21 assists, and Layla Pansegrau added 12 assists.
Scout Ridout made 12 digs to lead the STC defense, while Kenzi Boriskey finished with four blocks. Ridout also served 14-for-15 with an ace, while Sydney Arp was 9-for-10 with two aces. Bro had a team-high five aces.
Kylee Suhr led Williamsburg (11-7, 0-2) with seven kills and three blocks.
Rebels tipped by Tigers in 5
REINBECK -- The Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team rallied but couldn't upend South Hardin in a five-set NICL West Division thriller on Tuesday, falling 13-25, 25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 15-5.
The host Tigers (7-10, 2-0) held off the Rebels behind 16 kills from Lucy Anderson and 15 more for Emma Minteer.
Jada Cheville led the G-R attack with nine kills, while Ayla Bear and Ella Wagner had eight apiece. Kinzee Hemann had six kills, while setter Kailey Larsen finished with 31 assists.
Larsen led the defense with 24 digs and Bear had 21 more, while Hemann had a team-high three blocks. Bear also served 22-for-23 with three aces and Hemann was 19-of-20 with four aces. Avery Boyer was 13-for-13 with one ace for the Rebels (6-11, 1-2).
East Marshall clubs Cougars
ACKLEY -- The East Marshall volleyball team took care of winless AGWSR on Tuesday in NICL West Division action, topping the Cougars 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.
Natalie Condon led the Mustangs (12-6, 1-2) with seven kills and three blocks, while Kiela Wolf had five kills and two blocks. Marisa Cahalan also had five kills, and setter Mya Gould finished with 21 assists.
Libby Atcher led the East Marshall defense with 17 digs. Cahalan had 13 digs and was 19-for-21 serving with three aces. Gould went 15-for-16, while Ashtyn Wheater was 9-for-10 with two aces.
Hadley Bright had seven kills to pace AGWSR (0-11, 0-4).
Trojan girls take STC Invite
TAMA -- The Class 2A No. 3 West Marshall girls' cross country team cruised to the title at the South Tama Invitational on Monday night, scoring just 18 points.
The Trojans' five scoring runners all finished inside the top-six, interrupted only by East Marshall's Sydney Hull finishing in third place with a time of 21 minutes, 4 seconds. West Marshall's Dalaney Eldridge captured the individual crown in 20:32, followed by runner-up Kielly Kasal in 20:59, Zoey Wignall in fourth (21:47), Ella Randall in fifth (22:00) and Harper Blackburn in sixth (22:09).
BCLUW's Chloe Switzer was 12th with a time of 23:29, while GMG's Grace Mathern placed 15th in a season-best 24:16. Gladbrook-Reinbeck freshman Colbie Fevold finished 39th in a personal-best clocking of 28:00.
Hull helped East Marshall to a third-place finish in the seven-team meet as the Mustangs totaled 85 points, just back of North Tama (77). East Marshall's next four scoring runners all finished between 21st and 26th -- Ashlynn Duncan (21, 25:18), Abigail Hendricks (23, 25:47), Faith Pardekooper (25, 26:21) and CeCe Curtis (26, 26:25).
South Tama was last out of seven scoring teams with 154 points. The Trojans' five runners all placed between 36-42, led by Adalyn Graff in 27:28.
On the boys' side, host South Tama was second out of eight scoring teams, tallying 75 points to trail only Grinnell (35). Trojan sophomore Max Shirmer earned bronze with his season-best time of 18:27; Henri Martinez-Alvarado was ninth in a personal-best time of 19:37; and Kyler Johnson-Whitefish was 12th in 19:44.
East Marshall finished third with 90 points, led by top-20 finishes for Landen Shoeman (13th, 19:59), Lars Dommer (18th, 20:51) and Maddux Bennett (19th, 21:02).
Gladbrook-Reinbeck was sixth with 150 points, paced by runner-up Caleb Pifkin (18:24) and 20th-place finisher Caleb Bowser (21:08).
West Marshall took seventh (160) powered by Aaron Greene in 10th place (19:38).
BCLUW was paced by Tommy Hinderhofer, who was eighth in a time of 19:21. Harrison Schiebel (24th, 21:40) and Olin Hupfeld (25th, 21:24) finished consecutively.
