SHEFFIELD -- The BCLUW football team fell to 0-2 with Friday's 61-6 loss to eighth-ranked West Fork.
The host Warhawks (2-0) outscored the Comets 40-0 after the first quarter to capture the victory. West Fork, polled eighth by Radio Iowa, piled up 371 of its 452 yards of offense on the ground, getting 117 yards and two touchdowns from Blaine Schulz.
BCLUW was led by Elliot McIntyre's 109 rushing yards, including an 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Ethan Shadlow added 21 yards and Eathan Petermeier picked up 14 more for the Comets.
McIntyre was 6-for-16 passing for 40 yards with two interceptions. Tommy Miller made four catches for 30 yards to lead the Comet receivers.
Avery Schipper paced the BCLUW defense with nine tackles, including two sacks, while McIntyre had a 29-yard interception return. Petermeier picked up a fumble and joined Shadlow with four tackles apiece.
Trojans tripped up by Union
TAMA -- The South Tama football team suffered its first loss in a 27-6 setback against Union Community in Friday's home opener.
Union (1-1) outgained the host Trojans 302-184 in the win, getting 276 rushing yards along the way. Garrett Kaalberg had 20 carries for 167 yards and four touchdowns for the visiting Knights, who threw for just 26 yards.
South Tama's lone touchdown came on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Brant to Michael Henry. The Trojans (1-1) had only 22 yards passing in all, with Brant going 2-for-11 with two interceptions. Eric Medina rushed 18 times for 92 yards and Izak Schroeder had 14 carries for 53 yards.
Kyle Youngbear brought in 11 tackles to lead the STC defense, and Eli Cruikshank totaled six stops.
Tigers trample Golden Rams, 9-1
The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team scored a 9-1 triumph over Anoka-Ramsey on Friday at the MCC campus.
The Tigers (2-4) got goals from eight different players in the contest, taking a 4-1 lead by halftime and tacking on another five goals after the intermission.
Diego Venegas Vidal was the lone two-goal scorer for MCC. Enrico Borges had a goal and two assists, while goals also came from Enrique Bearden, Enock Basunguci, Rhys Common, Matoi Yanagisawa, Joji Shibutani and Luciano Cortes.
Dominic Capla contributed two assists, while Bonne Taabuu and Kaisei Noguchi had one helper each. MCC goalkeeper Torai Matsumoto surrendered a goal on the only shot he faced on net in 70 minutes, while Joshua Gomez never faced a shot in 20 minutes protecting the net.
Spencer Burgoon converted a penalty kick for the only goal for the Golden Rams (0-4).
MCC is at home again on Sunday, facing Carl Sandburg College at 3 p.m.
