DELHI -- The East Marshall football team suffered its third-straight defeat, falling 44-6 at Maquoketa Valley in Friday's Class A District 4 clash.
The Mustangs (1-3, 0-2) were limited to a 123 yards of total offense in the loss. Kaden Grant rushed for 41 yards and quarterback Jaxson Boswell added 22 yards. Boswell finished 5-of-15 passing for 51 yards with an interception, with Grant and Gavin Gaschler both totaling 20 receiving yards to lead the team.
East Marshall's lone touchdown came on a 91-yard punt return by Eli Burns in the third quarter.
Gaschler and Trent Criswell led the Mustang defense with eight tackles a piece, while Boswell and Grant both made seven stops.
Maquoketa Valley (2-2, 1-1) piled up 491 yards of offense, including 387 on the ground. Rogan Heidt rushed 29 times for 281 yards and four touchdowns for the Wildcats. Quarterback Trevor Grimm finished 8-for-11 passing for 104 yards, with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Eli Dougherty.
Blue Demons outlast STC
ALBIA -- The South Tama football team fell in its Class 2A District 7 opener, dropping a 34-16 contest to host Albia on Friday night.
Albia (3-1, 1-0) led 19-16 at halftime and held the Trojans scoreless after the intermission. The Blue Demons used a balanced attack to take the win, getting 168 yards and three touchdowns through the air and 161 yards and two scores on the ground.
South Tama (2-2, 0-1) was held to 183 yards of offense, with quarterback Ryan Brant going 4-for-8 passing for 75 yards and a touchdown. Izak Schroeder hauled in a 68-yard TD grab for the Trojans, while Eric Medina rushed for 52 yards and a short touchdown plunge.
Kyle Youngbear led the STC defense with 11.5 tackles, while Chanden Graybeal finished with eight tackles.
