SPORTS SHORTS: Wolverines improve to 2-0

GARWIN -- The GMG football team outscored Calamus-Wheatland 20-0 in the second half to capture a 40-22 victory over the Warriors in Friday's non-district 8-Man game.

The host Wolverines trailed 22-20 at the half before blanking Calamus-Wheatland (0-1) after the intermission. GMG improved to 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2021.

Jacoby Woodbury had four touchdowns to lead the GMG attack, rushing four times for 43 yards and three scores. He also had two receptions for 41 yards with a 30-yard touchdown catch. Quarterback Ethan Klemesrud was 3-for-5 for 84 yards with a 43-yard TD strike to Caleb Ferch as well.

Klemesrud led GMG on the ground with 94 yards and a touchdown, and Bodie Hutchinson added 64 yards.

The Wolverines narrowly outgained the Warriors, 294-271, but had three takeaways and no turnovers. Klemesrud had an interception to go with his team-leading 18.5 tackles, while Hutchinson and Ferch both recovered fumbles. Jacob Snider secured 13 tackles and Easton Sash had 12 more.
