OTTUMWA -- The Marshalltown girls' swimming squad stormed past Ottumwa in Tuesday's final dual meet of the season, blasting the host Bulldogs 105-45 in an Iowa Alliance Conference meet at Beach Ottumwa.
The Bobcats (7-2) claimed their seventh-straight dual meet after an 0-2 start to the season, sweeping the top three spots in two events and finishing 1-2 in four others. Piper Gevock was the only resistance Ottumwa could offer as she won both of her individual swims to prevent a Marshalltown sweep.
MHS claimed the other nine events, led by Emma Case and Leia Hernandez winning three golds each. Case collected first place in the 500-yard freestyle and was a part of the triumphant 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Hernandez scored two individual golds with the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, and she helped the 400 freestyle relay to victory as well.
Adele Beek captained the Bobcats' 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 freestyle, leading Lydia Beek and Silvia Mullen to the wall, while Hernandez was chased to the finish by Zoey Pals and Lydia Beek in the 100 breaststroke.
Addison Elmore won the 200 freestyle and Drea Ceren took the top spot in the 100 freestyle. The winning 200 medley relay consisted of Elmore, Mullen, Case and Pals, and it was Alex Lasack, Adele Beek, Case and Lydia Beek touching up first in the 200 freestyle.
MHS closed the meet with an 11-second victory in the 400 freestyle relay, as Lasack, Pals, Hernandez and Ceren scored gold in a combined time of 4:15.71.
Marshalltown hosts its All-Dive Invite on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA. The meet will serve as a state qualifier as well, with the top-five finishers automatically advancing to the season-ending state meet.
