Bobcat netters hammer Hoover

DES MOINES -- The Marshalltown volleyball team got back on track in Iowa Alliance Conference play by pounding out a 3-0 sweep of Des Moines Hoover on Tuesday night.

The host Huskies (2-13, 0-7) provided little resistance, falling 25-12, 25-8, 25-15 to the Bobcats.

Marshalltown (7-16, 5-2) used a wide array of players to put away Hoover on this night, getting kills from nine different players. Bella Avise led the way with six kills, Brooklyn Smith finished with five, Kendall Brummel had four, and both Kendall Klinge and Eliza Bell had three kills.

Setter Lauren O'Neal totaled 24 assists in the team's first 3-0 sweep in nearly three weeks. Additional kills came from Lorelai Holloway (2), Katelyn Bonzer (2), Avery Polley (1) and O'Neal (1).

The Bobcats' defense was led by Bonzer with two blocks, while Bell and Avise had one each. O'Neal finished with a team-high nine digs, Polley had seven and Klinge added six.

Marshalltown amassed 16 service aces in the sweep, led by Morgan Hilderbrand going 14-for-14 serving with six aces. Anela Holloway was 13-for-14 with three aces, while Klinge and Collins Grant had two aces apiece.

The Bobcats return to Alliance action on Tuesday with a home match against league-leading Ottumwa (15-5, 6-0).
