The Marshalltown girls' tennis team entered the fall with a new-look lineup, but the Bobcats more than held their own in the Iowa Alliance Conference.

The league's coaches took notice.

Six Bobcats were honored with selection to the all-Iowa Alliance Conference girls tennis squad in a vote of its coaches, highlighted by three-time first-team selection Kate Sandvick and first-time honoree Kaelyn Coleman.

Both seniors, Sandvick and Coleman were named to the all-IAC first team after a season in which the Bobcats got to within two wins of state and finished just off the pace in the conference race.

Marshalltown went 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the Alliance, with a 9-2 loss to Ottumwa separating the two teams at the top of the final standings.

Accordingly, the Bobcats were honored individually for their team's accomplishments.

Sandvick was selected to the Alliance first team for the third year in a row after completing her senior campaign at the Class 2A state singles tournament. She finished the season with a 15-4 record after an 0-2 showing in Waterloo as just the seventh state singles qualifier in school history and first since 2010.

Sandvick's 13 regular-season wins ranked her ninth in all of Class 2A at the No. 1 singles position.

Coleman came away with a 7-7 singles record during the regular season, playing primarily the No. 2 spot for the Bobcats, and finished 8-8 overall. She went 3-1 during conference play.

Second-team all-Alliance honors went to senior Hanna Osgood and junior Karolina Cross. Osgood posted a 10-4 singles record as Marshalltown's primary No. 3 position player, going 11-5 overall in an enhanced role in the top half of the lineup this season. Cross emerged as Marshalltown's No. 4 singles player in her debut, going 8-7 during the regular season and 9-8 overall.

Honorable mention all-conference selection went to senior Trista Bratland and sophomore Sophie Boone. Boone held her ground as the Bobcats' No. 5 singles player and finished her first season as a varsity regular with a 2-11 record, while Bratland slotted in at No. 6 and went 5-5 during the regular season and 7-5 overall. Bratland joined Sandvick as singles winners during the Bobcats' season-ending regional loss at Cedar Rapids Washington.

Both Marshalltown and Des Moines Roosevelt finished at 5-1 in Iowa Alliance Conference duals, sharing second place behind Ottumwa (7-0) after their regular-season meeting was washed out by wet weather.
