IOWA CITY -- University of Iowa women's basketball guard Dani Carnegie has been named to the 2027 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award preseason watch list, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.
Carnegie is one of 20 players nationally selected to the preseason watch list and one of seven representatives from the Big Ten. The award recognizes the top shooting guard in NCAA Division I women's basketball. She joins fellow Hawkeye Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright, who was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list Monday.
The third-year guard enters her first season with the Hawkeyes following a standout campaign at Georgia, where she earned unanimous first-team All-SEC honors. Carnegie started all 32 games for the Bulldogs in 2025-26, averaging 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest.
The Mount Vernon, N.Y., native totaled 568 points and connected on 84 3-pointers last season. She recorded a career-high 32 points and 11 rebounds against Ole Miss and dished out a career-best eight assists against Kentucky.
Prior to Georgia, Carnegie spent her first collegiate season at Georgia Tech, where she was named the 2025 ACC Sixth Player of the Year and earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors. She averaged 12.9 points per game, connected on 66 3-pointers and was a five-time ACC Rookie of the Week selection. Carnegie played alongside Wright and was coached by Iowa assistant Lasondra Barrett during her time with the Yellow Jackets.
Carnegie also helped the United States capture the gold medal at the 2026 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup in Wuhan, China, in September. She scored five points and grabbed four rebounds in Team USA's 15-10 championship victory over Canada.
Fan voting begins Friday, Oct. 30. The 20-player watch list will be narrowed to 10 candidates in February before five finalists are announced in March.
