Community members, local leaders, and 116 golf enthusiasts recently gathered at Elmwood Country Club for the Jerry Johnson Legacy Pro-Am tournament, raising $60,000 to support local first-generation college students and student-athletes at Marshalltown Community College.

The inaugural fundraiser brought the community together to honor the lasting impact of Elmwood's longtime PGA Head Professional while investing in local education and collegiate athletics.

"In my role leading the Marshalltown Education Partnership program, I see firsthand how the right support and connections can help students move toward their goals. We're incredibly grateful for the funds raised to benefit local first-generation students and MCC student-athletes," said Mia Barajas, MEP Coordinator. "Just as meaningful are the new relationships and partnerships this event helped build. I'm proud to be part of a community that comes together to invest in its students and their future."

Emerson served as the title sponsor for the tournament, alongside presenting sponsors Wayward Social, Zenos, Bobcat Academy, and Wandering Creek. Event organizers extended sincere gratitude to all sponsors, participating golfers, donors, volunteers, and community partners whose generosity ensured the tournament's success. Special appreciation was given to Elmwood Country Club, PGA Head Professional Jay Giannetto, and the entire Elmwood staff for hosting and facilitating the event.

"It was an amazing day that brought our community together and reflected the impact Jerry had on so many lives," said Whitney Sowers, MCC Athletic Director. "We are extremely grateful to everyone who helped make the event possible. Most importantly, Jerry's legacy will continue to make a lasting difference by providing opportunities for students to further their education at MCC."

Following the success of this year's event, organizers will return next year with another golf tournament, with additional details and dates to be announced in the coming months.
