MHS swim squad sinks Mason City

The Marshalltown girls' swimming and diving squad won its fifth-straight dual meet, mashing Mason City 115-57 on Tuesday night at the MHS pool.

The Bobcats (5-2) won all 12 events, highlighted by a trio of individual events win which Marshalltown captured the top two spots.

Leia Hernandez led teammate Drea Ceren to the wall to win the 200-yard freestyle. Hernandez won the race in 2 minutes, 6.02 seconds, while Ceren was second in 2:11.42.

The Bobcat duo of Addison Elmore and Lydia Beek went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:58.99 and 6:47.21, respectively, while Emma Case (1:10.70) took first place ahead of Ceren (1:13.49) in the 100 backstroke.

Case, Elmore, Hernandez and Adele Beek each won all four of their swims on the night. Case captured the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, while Elmore won the 50- and 500-yard freestyle events on her own. Hernandez won the 100 and 200 freestyle races, and Beek claimed the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

The 200 medley relay team of Elmore, Adele Beek, Alex Lasack and Frankie Long finished more than five seconds ahead of Mason City, and the 200 freestyle relay foursome of Case, Adele Beek, Ceren and Hernandez was almost five seconds in front of its Riverhawk counterpart.

Marshalltown's 400 freestyle relay quartet of Ceren, Elmore, Case and Hernandez finished 38 seconds ahead of Mason City in the evening's finale.

The Bobcats are back in the pool on Tuesday at Des Moines Lincoln.
