DES MOINES -- A 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-yard freestyle helped to power the Marshalltown girls' swimming and diving squad to a 98-87 victory over Des Moines Lincoln in an Iowa Alliance Conference meet here Tuesday.
The Bobcats (6-2) claimed their sixth consecutive dual meet on the strength of winning nine of 11 events, highlighted by a top-three sweep in the 100 freestyle. Leia Hernandez led a trio of Marshalltown swimmers to the wall with a time of 55.32 seconds -- her season-best clocking in the event. Frankie Long finished second a season-best 1:06.08 and Lydia Beek was third in 1:06.73.
MHS also got a 1-2 finish in the 200 individual medley, as Adele Beek won the race in 2:27.64 and teammate Emma Case was the runner-up in 2:30.21.
Marshalltown claimed all three relay races, while Hernandez and Adele Beek both won a pair of individual events.
The foursome of Addison Elmore, Adele Beek, Case and Long claimed the 200 medley relay in 2:02.66; the 200 freestyle relay quartet of Adele Beek, Zoey Pals, Drea Ceren and Hernandez won in 1:49.45; and the 400 freestyle relay contingent of Elmore, Case, Ceren and Hernandez closed the meet in victory in 4:02.87.
Hernandez took the top spot in the 200 freestyle (2:05.16) in addition to the 100 free, and Adele Beek topped the 100 breaststroke (1:11.40) as well as the 200 IM.
Elmore was first in a sprint to the finish in the 50 freestyle (27.91), and Harlie Thatcher scored 208.30 to win the diving competition.
