SPORTS SHORTS: BCLUW netters withstand Warriors, 3-1

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT -- The Class 1A No. 12 BCLUW volleyball team overcame a slow start to put away the Meskwaki Warriors in four sets, winning 23-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-11 in Thursday's Iowa Star Conference South Division clash.

The Comets (18-9, 4-0) collected their fourth win in a row, powered by Cambria Wayman's 13 kills. Kennedy Davis contributed 11 kills, Raine Sireno had nine, and Kylie Pekarek pitched in six. Setter Sally Ramirez totaled 35 assists and chipped in four kills.

Brinna Benson led the BCLUW defense with 17 digs, Ramirez had 14 and Sireno 10. Ramirez led the Comets at the net with two blocks while Pekarek and Addison Moeller had one each.

Wayman served up a storm, going 20-for-24 with eight of the team's 20 aces. Davis was 12-for-15 with six aces, while Benson and Ramirez had two aces apiece.

The loss was the seventh in a row for Meskwaki (3-12, 2-4).

Wolverines club Collins-Maxwell

MAXWELL -- The GMG volleyball team took down Collins-Maxwell in straight sets here Thursday, winning 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 in an Iowa Star Conference South Division match.

Arianna Pierce had 13 kills to lead the Wolverines, while Kate Mussig chipped in with nine. Sophomore setter Joleesa Vazquez finished with 28 assists.

Skyler Murty led GMG (8-17, 3-1) at the net with two blocks while Mussig and Violet Jackson added one each. Riah Boege paced the back row with 12 digs, Hannah Peters had seven, Vazquez had six and Brooklyn Wood five.

Each of six GMG servers had at least one ace, with Murty going 11-for-13 with five aces. Mussig had three aces while Jackson and Boege added two apiece.

It marked the 12th-straight loss for Collins-Maxwell (1-18, 0-5).

Tigers tie No. 19 Tritons

FORT DODGE -- The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team scored first but couldn't hold off No. 19 Iowa Central in settling for a 1-1 draw in Wednesday's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference contest.

The Tigers (2-7-2, 0-2-2) struck first with a goal from Matoi Yanagisawa, assisted by Kaisei Noguchi, but the host Tritons (7-2-1, 3-0-1) drew even on a successful penalty kick by Ignacio Chayle.

MCC goalkeeper Torai Matsumoto finished with two saves while Iowa Central's Laurato Real tallied four saves in net.

There were 12 yellow cards and one red card shown in the match as the tie prevented Iowa Central from taking the outright lead in the ICCAC Division II standings.
