SPORTS SHORTS: Rebels rock Collins-Maxwell in Homecoming game

GLADBROOK -- The Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team scored at least two touchdowns in all four quarters of Friday's 69-6 Homecoming victory over Collins-Maxwell in 8-Man District 6 action.

The Rebels (6-0, 4-0) racked up just 237 yards of total offense as the defense feasted with five takeaways and Treyvon Herron returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown.

Herron rushed four times for 124 yards and three touchdowns to lead the G-R offense, while Bennett Sieh, Brayton Dripps and Macklin Clark each had a touchdown run. Sieh was 5-of-5 passing for 52 yards and three touchdowns -- one each to Chad Gutknecht, Brayden Utter and Joshua Utterback.

Utter led the Rebel defense with 8.5 tackles, including three tackles for loss, while Gutknecht had both an interception and a fumble recovery against the Spartans (1-5, 1-3).

MCC men's soccer draws with Comets

The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team drew even with Western Iowa Tech on Saturday at MCC, tying 1-1.

The host Tigers (2-7-3, 0-2-3) took the lead on a goal from Joji Shibutani in the third minute of the match, assisted by Matoi Yanagisawa, but the Comets (6-5-2, 0-4-1) got the tying tally in the 15th minute from Ollie Buchan.

Western Iowa Tech outshot the Tigers, 7-3, with MCC goalkeeper Torai Matsumoto coming away with six saves. Florian Steiger made two saves for the Comets.
