West Marshall moves game to Franklin Field

1 min read

The rejuvenation of historic Franklin Field is benefiting Marshalltown -- and beyond.

West Marshall has relocated Friday's Class 1A District 7 home football game against Panorama from State Center to Franklin Field due to unsafe field conditions.

The Trojans (3-2, 2-0) will meet the Panorama Panthers (0-6, 0-2) in at 7 p.m. contest while Marshalltown High School takes on Waukee across town at Leonard Cole Field.

"As always, the safety and well-being of our student-athletes is our highest priority, and moving the game to Franklin Field provides our football players with a quality venue and playing environment while allowing us to continue with Friday night football," West Marshall wrote in a press release. "We are incredibly grateful to the Marshalltown Community School District and Dr. Theron Schutte for their partnership and for opening Franklin Field to the West Marshall community. We appreciate their willingness to help provide this opportunity for our students and look forward to creating a memorable night for our players, coaches, families, and fans."

West Marshall's football program retained practice time at Leonard Cole Field last week in preparation for their district contest at Pleasantville, which also is an artificial turf playing surface.
