LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Drake women's basketball team got outscored 16-1 over the final five and a half minutes of the second quarter as Kansas pulled away for a 74-49 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday at Allen Fieldhouse.

Drake (1-1) used a 12-5 run to get within 26-23 of host Kansas (2-0), forcing a timeout, but it was all Jayhawks from there. Kansas poured it on and pulled out to a 42-24 halftime lead, and the deficit never shrank below 16 the rest of the way.

"We fought and scrapped, but there weren't too many positives today," said Drake head coach Allison Pohlman. "We took hurried shots, turned the ball over too much, and your margin of error against a team like this is so small.

"There are a lot of things we have to navigate and figure out, especially our physicality. Need to be more assertive and confident in the paint and on the defensive end. Still proud of our group, but collectively as a team we need to embrace that part of our game more."

Jaliya Davis tallied game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds to pace Kansas, and S'Mya Nichols added 10 points and four assists. The Jayhawks had a 53-38 advantage in rebounding, and they converted Drake's 19 turnovers into 22 points.

Drake was led by Brooklin Dailey with 12 points off the bench. Quinn Vice had eight points and five blocked shots, and Grace Knutson added six points for the Bulldogs. Drake got 31 points from its reserves in the loss.
