Teacher arrested for sexual exploitation with student

Mark Edward Farris Esquivel, 26, of Marshalltown was arrested on Wednesday on allegations concerning potential exploitation and inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old juvenile.

Esquivel has been charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee. He is being held in the Marshall County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

The Marshalltown Police Department received a report on June 24 about the alleged actions. Further investigation revealed Esquivel was a Marshalltown High School physical education teacher and coach in the Marshalltown Community School District and the juvenile was a student. Esquivel has submitted his resignation.

It is alleged Esquivel engaged in a pattern of conduct by communicating with a minor for the purpose of soliciting sexual contact and that Esquivel knew the minor was younger than 18.

This is an active investigation.
