An Emerson Process Management-Fisher Controls official confirmed Monday that a Marshalltown man died last week due to a fatal work accident.

Employee Craig Petersen, 61, died Thursday, after being injured in an accident.

“There was an incident last Thursday night at the Marshalltown manufacturing facility Governor Road here in Marshalltown,” said Emerson-Fisher Global Human Resources Vice President Paul Gregoire. “We’ve contacted the family and we’ve been working with them.”

The cause and nature of the accident are still under investigation.

“We’re still looking into the accident,” Gregoire said, adding Emerson-Fisher has been working with the Marshalltown Police Department and Iowa Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) in relation to the incident. “We had OSHA come up here and look the facility over.”

Gregoire added that on-site grief counseling is currently being offered to employees who may have been traumatized by the incident. He called the incident a “terrible loss for us and for Marshalltown,” and said safety remains a top priority for the company.

According to the Anderson Funeral Homes website, service arrangements for Petersen are pending.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to (Petersen’s) family and co-workers,” Gregoire said.
