CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS A remodel of the Marshalltown McDonald’s will include a revamped PlayPlace, digital kiosks to order and table service, among other things.

McDonald’s announced Wednesday afternoon its Marshalltown location would be receiving a complete remodel.

Construction will begin on Monday with an estimated completion time in May. The restaurant will stay open during construction, with the dining room and/or drive-thru remaining open to serve customers, according to the announcement.

“The footprint of the building will be expanded to add additional seating to the dining room, while the outside of the building will have a modern façade and improved drive-thru accessibility,” according to the announcement. “The inside will have a modern design and a new PlayPlace structure for kids to enjoy.”

The remodel will also include digital self-order kiosks, but front counter registers will also be available.

“Guests’ orders will be delivered to tables by McDonald’s crew members, allowing customers to relax and enjoy a more custom dining experience,” according to the release. “With these new changes, the restaurant will be placing a higher emphasis on hospitality by focusing on greeting customers, assisting with technology and ensuring a clean, welcoming environment.”

The announcement also said with the upgrades, the restaurant will need more employees before the grand re-opening. Applications can be filled out in the store or online at www.obrienmcdonalds.com/hiring.

“The O’Brien Family McDonald’s organization has been in operation for 61 years and owns 18 McDonald’s restaurants in Iowa. The organization acquired the Marshalltown restaurant in May 2018 and is excited to bring a completely remodeled restaurant to the community,” the announcement read.

Further details on the grand re-opening will be released at a later time. The restaurant is located on Highway 14, just off of Highway 30.
