Recently, I wrote to Representative Hinson urging her to vote no on an appropriations bill that would provide protection for chemical manufacturers like Bayer. I have lived in Iowa for the last 40 years and have raised my family here in a beautiful small town. However, two of my three family members have developed rare forms of cancer. To the editor, The reasoning behind an interview by Robert Maharry with Lonnie Hogeland is questionable. Filing for municipal office has not begun, Hogeland has not focused on a specific office and the scattershot remarks by Hogeland reveal an unfocused mind. His remarks are immature, mean spirited and an insult to the real work accomplished daily by dedicated board members, city employees and elected officials. Think twice about trees

Editor, we’ve got a local business that wants to expand, and our city leaders are telling him how many trees he needs around his expansion. I know of a building project years ago that gave up on his plans after the city council started adding on what he had to do. I hope city leaders think twice about the trees and let him build on to his factory.
