Meeting the public

Dec. 26 was a special day. Having many errands to do, we started by eating breakfast at Muddy Waters. After ordering, we began to people watch. Just inside the main-entrance door, there was a table of 20+ people, probably a family get-together. Shortly, a ten year old boy strolled in and “Bellied up to the bar.” A waitress standing there told him she had already put his order in. J.P. began talking to him. The boy’s name was Remington Rhodes, brother of Bentley Rhodes who lives in Grundy Center. His grandmother works at the T. R. He helps her and she gives him some cash to have ...

Thank you for stepping up

Thank you to the Marshalltown community. 2024 was a record year for use of the Emergency Food Box. As in the past, the community has stepped forward to meet the needs of this mission. On behalf of the EFB Board I want to thank everyone for their support in 2024. When the need increased, the community responded with food and monetary donations. Since its founding in 1983, the Marshalltown community has stepped forward and met the needs of this mission. God Bless you for your generosity.

Tammany Hall in Tama

The Governor of Iowa has cut back the river monitoring in Iowa City. Upstream. The Iowa Beef Processors were given 11 million dollars to expand their production. They unilaterally changed this to “upgrades.” Gee, I’d like to see the list on this one. With the republican Senator visiting the plant, exaltedly proclaimed, in the foreign owned company, (with only a few processors extant in this uncompetitive witches brew that screws the livestock farmer), it’s easy to see how that local Republican Tammany hall works. Fisher and the local construction company that by coincidence ...

A response to Rep. Feenstra

Greetings from Rev. Darrell Mitchell. On Monday,Dec. 16, Senator Randy Feenstra wrote an article in the TR, “Keeping Our Military the Strongest Force in the world.” More than half of the Pentagon’s appropriations went to large defense contractors, of which the leaders are Lockhead Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman. Together they reaped close to $200 billion of taxpayer funds, in this past year. In the year 2020 the top contractors took in $551 billion dollars. Today, we need to pause and think about what our never ending wars do to men who kill. Every ...

RIP IVBC

I am taking this opportunity to document the fact that there was an active bicycle club in Marshalltown, Iowa for 50 years, 1974 - 2024. It was the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club (IVBC). Mid December 1974, My wife and I were invited to a Christmas party at the home of Dan Ring, an avid cyclist. At that party, made up mostly of local cyclists, there was discussion of starting a bicycle club - “the conception and birth”. On Thursday, Dec. 19, the club president, treasurer and I met at the Lennox Credit Union to close the banking accounts of IVBC - “the funeral and burial.” Through the ...

Republicans haven’t secured the border

I get emails from Randy Feenstra and Ashley Hinson saying Trump be president our borders will be secure. Republicans should say that to Mollie Tibbetts family? Mollie got murdered in Republican control state of Iowa when Trump was president by illegal who work for a Republican farmer. Next thing Republicans tell us multi divorce Trump doesn’t cheat on wives.
