Thompson – 70th

Thomas (T.R.) and Evelyn Thompson, of Marshalltown, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on June 8.

Thomas R. Thompson and Evelyn Marie Muckler were married on June 8, 1945, in Gilman, at the home of her aunt, Elizabeth Fanton, before Thomas left for military service. After serving, Thomas graduated from the University of Iowa, and the couple made Marshalltown their home, as he took a job with Lennox Industries. Thompson retired as the vice president and general manager of the Midwest Division of Lennox Industries and later served three terms as the Mayor of Marshalltown.

The couple has five children: Rick, of Marshalltown; Craig (Nancy), of Iowa City; Jill Bussan (Tony), of Webster City; Lori Wildman (Tracy), of Marshalltown, and Jann Thompson-Ryerson, deceased; 11 grandchildren: Amy (Dean) Schmidt; Kelly (Nate) Kaleta, Aaron Knight; Sean Thompson, Corey Thompson, Vanessa Thompson, Rachel Bussan, Joe Bussan, Dani Wical (Brandon Street), Megan (Chris) Greenwood and Kyle Wildman (Tahler Johnston) and 10 great-grandchildren: Andy, Tyler and Evie Schmidt; Emma and Annie Kaleta; Aubree, Gracie and Lane Greenwood, Gwen Wical and Finley Street.

The couple plans an anniversary celebration with the family this summer at one of their favorite vacation destinations for the last 40 years, Okoboji.
