Siblings arrested for attack on woman

Two siblings were arrested after a woman was strangled and pepper sprayed.

Miranda Oden, 40, and William E. Ware III, 49, of Marshalltown, were arrested for the incident that occurred around 1 a.m. on Nov. 16 in the victim’s apartment on the 100 block of North Center Street.

According to police, Ware was arguing with his girlfriend and then began strangling her. Oden, Ware’s sister, then allegedly shot pepper spray in her eyes. Both left after the attack.

The victim was transported to the hospital, treated and released.

At 2:30 a.m., police and a sheriff’s deputy were dispatched to Kwik Star, 810 S. Third Ave., for a fight Ware was involved in with Kirk Thomas, 50, of Marshalltown.

Ware was arrested and charged with domestic assault strangulation, an aggravated misdemeanor, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts. Thomas was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Officers arrested Oden at her business, the Blue Note Lounge, 102 W. Main St., on Thursday night. Oden is charged with serious assault, a serious misdemeanor.

Kurt and Jessica Elliff, of Ballwin, Mo., are the parents of a daughter, Payton Julie Elliff, born at 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. Grandparents are John and Julie Hickey, of Columbia, Mo., and Dave and Kathy , of Marshalltown.

Barrin Sanache, of Council Bluffs, made an initial appearance on a contempt charge for failure to appear for a contempt hearing. The court appointed Bethany Curry as counsel. The contempt hearing will be scheduled by the District Court as its docket permits. Bond is set at $8,000 cash only.

Lara G. Stauffer, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-third offense charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 2. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. Upon release, Stauffer is to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Justin P. Bittner, 409 E. State St., made an initial appearance on a contempt-violation of a no-contact order charge. The court appointed Laura Eilers as counsel. The contempt hearing is set for Dec. 4 at 9 a.m. Bittner was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition, Bittner is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. A new no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Thomas Steven Marson, of Haverhill, made an initial appearance on a serious domestic abuse assault charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 9. Marson was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition, Marson is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Jennifer Charmaine Yakel, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a giving of false information for the purposes of the sex offender registry charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 2. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Jesse Theodore Little, 311 N. Third Ave., made an initial appearance on two counts of a theft-third degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 10. Little was released on his own recognizance.

Hussein Jamal Muwonge, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on two counts of probation violation. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing is set for 11 a.m. on Dec. 6. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety for each charge.

Accidents

On Thursday, a car driven by Miguel Antonio Negrete, of Toledo, was southbound on Highland Acres Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Negrete car was estimated at $2,000.

On Thursday, a car driven by Sandra Irene Baldwin, of Waterloo, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing functional front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Baldwin car was estimated at $1,700.

On Monday, a minivan driven by Lucinda Jo Rodenbeck, 213 S. 16th Ave., was eastbound on Iowa Avenue approaching the intersection with South Center Street when it entered the intersection on a red light and collided with a vehicle driven by Catherine Ann Niebergall, of Buckingham, causing it to roll at least twice before coming to a stop on the lawn at the Best Western Regency and then proceeded to collided head-on with a car driven by Jessica Erin Airey, of Conrad, which was stopped facing west at the intersection of Center Street. Rodenbeck, Niebergall and Airey were all possibly injured, but none were transported. Rodenbeck was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Rodenbeck minivan was estimated at $3,000 while the Niebergall vehicle received an estimated $20,000 in damage, the Airey car an estimated $2,000 in damage and the lawn at the Best Western Regency an estimated $100 in damage.

On Sunday, a car driven by Danny Dean Roberts, 405 Nicholas Drive, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the road from the median. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Roberts car was estimated at $2,500.

On Nov. 16, a pickup driven by Cameron Dale Runner, of Ferguson, was westbound in the 900 block of East Anson Street at a high rate of speed when it struck a legally parked Jeep Grand Cherokee sending it into a legally parked Honda Passport pushing it into oncoming traffic. Passenger, Cassandra Lynn Holden, 1703 Edgebrook Drive Apt. E3, was transported to the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center emergency room with possible injuries while Runner was injured, but not transported. Runner was cited for failure to maintain control and speeding. Damage to the Runner pickup was estimated at $30,000 while the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Passport each received an estimated $10,000 in damage.

On Nov. 16, a vehicle driven by Lars Alan Brownlie, of Conrad, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that had entered the traveled portion of the roadway from the east ditch. A passenger complained of soreness from the seat belt, however, medical attention was refused. Damage to the Brownlie vehicle was estimated at $8,000.

On Nov. 14, a vehicle driven by Amy Monterrubio, of Wheaton, Ill., was traveling northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing moderate front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Monterrubio vehicle was estimated at $3,500.

On Nov. 13, an International truck driven by Henry Lyell Weuve, of Colo, was southbound on Fairman Avenue at the intersection with Highway 30 when it began pulling across the highway in the path of a car driven by Alison Louise Robinson, 1204 W. State St., which was traveling east on Highway 30 and a collision occurred with both vehicles coming to rest on Fairman Avenue. Robinson was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Weuve was cited for failure to yield right of way from a yield sign. Damage to the Robinson car was estimated at $5,000 while the Weuve truck received an estimated $200 in damage.

On Nov. 12, a car driven by Lorri Ann Waite, of Garwin, was traveling northbound on Wallace Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway at the intersection with Vine Avenue causing front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Waite car was estimated at $3,500.

On Sunday, Michael Leroy Carpenter, of Dunbar, reported the theft of a 2001 Buick LeSabre from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $2,500.

On Sunday, Ryan Mitchell Roberts, 2462 Malta Way, reported damage to the driver’s side window on a vehicle while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $100.

On Sunday, Leonard Leroy Grimes, 2353 233rd St., reported the theft of a chainsaw and a router from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $200.

On Tuesday, Justin Phillip Bittner, 409 E. State St., was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

On Tuesday, Thomas Steven Marson, of Haverhill, was arrested for serious domestic assault.

On Monday, Hussein Jamal Muwonge, 1706 S. Seventh Ave. Apt. #8, was arrested for public intoxication-enhanced to aggravated, harassment of a public official, lights on bicycle violation and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway.

On Tuesday, Barrin Lance Sanache, of Council Bluffs, was arrested for four counts of contempt.

On Tuesday, Amber Lee Cervantes-Arteaga, 1208 W. Church St., was arrested for failure to appear.

On Thursday, a minivan driven by Sarah Cuva Sorsen, 1903 S. Fifth Ave., was westbound on East Main Street at the intersection with South Third Avenue attempting to turn left onto Third Avenue when it struck pedestrian, Mary Pfantz, of State Center, which was walking across Third Avenue in the crosswalk. Pfantz was possibly injured. Sorsen was cited for failure to yield right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

On Tuesday, a car driven by Joseph Nathan Lander, 2051 180th St., was eastbound in the 2600 block of Summit Street when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Lander car was estimated at $2,000.
