Jeremy Lammert made an initial appearance on a possession of a controlled substance-third or subsequent offense charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16. Lammert was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

Lyle J. Russell made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16. Russell was released on his promise to appear.

Walter John Grace Jr. made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a speeding charge, a no seat belt charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16. Grace was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted within 60 days.

Cameron Hayden made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge and a open container of alcohol in a public park charge. Melissa Nine is appointed as counsel. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Sept. 21 in Magistrate Court. Bond is set at $300 cash.

Mark Austin made an initial appearance through counsel, Chad Frese, on a harassment-second degree charge. The preliminary hearing has been waived. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

Jeremy Adkins made an initial appearance on a city ordinance violation charge. A non-jury trial is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Sept. 23 in Magistrate Court.

Rusty A. Witte made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Witte pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

Carol A. Ealy made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge. A pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Sept. 14 in Magistrate Court.

Accidents

On Friday, a car driven by Luella Henrietta Freesemann, of Parkersburg, was eastbound on East Anson Street stopped for the stop sign at 18th Avenue when she proceeded forward into the path of a semi driven by Kyle William Padget, of Monroe, resulting in a collision. Freeseman was transported to Central Iowa Healthcare with injuries and then transported by helicopter to another hospital. Damage to the Padget semi was estimated at $1,000 while the Freesemann car received an estimated $8,000 in damage. The accident is still under investigation.

On Saturday, a car driven by Tanner Lee Anthony, of Laurel, was northbound in the 200 block of North 13th Street attempting a left turn into a parking lot when the automatic steering failed causing it to go at an angle which resulted in a vehicle driven by Jennifer Mae Hulin, of Marshalltown, which was southbound, colliding with the rear passenger side of the Anthony car. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Anthony car was estimated at $2,000 while the Hulin vehicle received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

On Saturday, a pickup driven by Kenneth Gerald Grant, of Nevada, was southbound on South Center Center Street when it attempted to move into the left turn lane where it collided with a car driven by Lavaun Blanche Slocum, of Marshalltown, then swerving onto the curb where it stopped. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Grant pickup was estimated at $1,500 while the Slocum car received an estimated $500 in damage.

On Saturday, a car driven by Tiffany Renea Welch, of Grinnell, made an abrupt stop on the on-ramp leading to Highway 30 eastbound due to a choking child and a semi driven by Amy M. Walker, of Greenfield, Mass., slightly collided with the rear of the Welch car. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Welch car was estimated at $100.

On Sunday, a car driven by Daniel Shawn Posey, of Tama, was westbound on East Merle Hibbs Boulevard attempting to turn left onto South Center Street when it collided with the driver’s side of a minivan driven by Irene Celestine Hilleman, of Marshalltown, which was stopped at the light and proceeded north for awhile before stopping. No injuries were reported. Posey was arrested for operating while under the influence. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,000 each.
