Court — Monday

• Marcos Ve negas made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-causing bodily injury or mental illness charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on May 30. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. Venegas has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Jesus Jesus Lopez made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-causing bodily injury or mental illness charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 7. Lopez is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Raeleen K. Vonk made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

• Robbie Steven Foster made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. Foster pleaded guilty and the fines on both charges are $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on each charge, due within 30 days.

• Anthony Lee Kies made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. Kies pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Luis Angel Pineda made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a trial on a driving while revoked charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The pre-trial conference and trial will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Manuel Rangel Adame made an initial appearance through a Spanish interpreter on a no insurance charge and a allowing motor vehicle law violations by an owner charge. Rangel Adame pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the allowing motor vehicle law violations charge is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the no insurance is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Brandon Lee Schmidt made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. Tyler Heeren was appointed as counsel. The contempt hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Desiree Carmer made an initial appearance on a supplying alcohol to minors charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 7.

• Michael Jay Taylor made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Taylor pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Seth Daniel Timmer made an initial appearance on an eluding charge, a operating while under the influence-second offense charge, a driving while revoked charge, a driving under suspension charge, an interference with official acts charge, two speeding charges, a no insurance charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Timmer plans to hire Kevin O’Hare as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 7. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of this case.

• Erick Alejandro Laguna Tafolla made an initial appearance on two counts of a driving under suspension charge, a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. Laguna Tafolla pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. on June 19 in Magistrate Court.

• Kameron Derrick Karns made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a speeding charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 10. Karns is released on his promise to appear. Accidents

• On Saturday, a car driven by Eulalio Angel Angel, 21, of Marshalltown, was northbound on South 12th Street approaching Westwood Drive when the driver spotted a deer coming toward his car. The driver opted to accelerate instead of braking and drove up on the curb and through a fence onto the Elmwood Golf Course. No injuries were reported. Angel Angel was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended and failure to maintain control. Damage to the Angel Angel car was estimated at $5,000 while the Elmwood fence and posts received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Thursday, May 16, a vehicle driven by Asherdee Nichole Bosely, 34, of Marshalltown, was backing out of a driveway onto Woodbury Street from the south and a vehicle driven by Ana Mireya Aguilera Pantoja, 22, of Marshalltown, was backing from Fifth Avenue onto Woodbury Street when the two collided. No injuries were reported. Aguilera Pantoja was cited for no valid driver’s license. Damage to the Bosely vehicle was estimated at $2,000 while the Aguilera Pantoja vehicle received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

• On Sunday, May 12, a car driven by Abby Elise Spinks 37, of Toledo, was southbound on Sixth Street approaching Olive Street with a green light while a vehicle driven by 17-year-old male from Garwin was traveling west on Olive Street approaching Sixth Street with a green light. The two vehicles entered the intersection at the same time resulting in a collision. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Spinks car was estimated at $5,000 while the juvenile’s vehicle received an estimated $7,000 in damage.
