Court — Wednesday

• Timothy James Leavy Sr., 51, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a plea hearing charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The plea hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

• Nge Htway made an initial appearance through a Karen interpreter on a driving under suspension charge, an operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a no valid driver’s license charge and an open container charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 11. Htway was released on his promise to appear. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• John Brandon Robovsky made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a sentencing hearing charge. Merrill Swartz will continue as counsel. The sentencing hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court. The bond is $1,000 cash or surety.

• Jose Alfredo Angel Medina made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Angel Medina pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Jose Alfredo Cervantes Reynosa made an initial appearance on a dogs at large charge. Cervantes Reynosa pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due in 30 days plus a $25 civil penalty.

• Jose Luis Garcia Cervantes made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. Garcia Cervantes pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days.

• Joel McKeag made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge. McKeag pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

• Cassandra Lynn Schultz made an initial appearance on a false reporting charge. Schultz pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days.

• Lori Michelle Shukers made an initial appearance on a dogs at large charge. Shukers pleaded guilty and the fine is $65 with an $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days plus a $25 civil penalty.

Marshalltown Police Department

Incidents

• On Tuesday, a burglary of an unoccupied vehicle was reported to the Marshalltown Police Station.

Arrests

• On Tuesday, Timothy Leavy, 51, was arrested on a warrant.

• On Tuesday, Nge Htway, 29, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, open container, driving under suspension and operating while under the influence-first offense.

• On Tuesday, Dawn Young, 41 was arrested on a warrant from another county.

Accidents

• On Thursday, a car driven by James Pettigrew, 56, of Marshalltown, was westbound on Summit Street when the driver experienced a medical condition resulting on the car leaving the roadway to the right and striking a gas meter at a residence in the 1700 block of Summit Street. Pettigrew was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown by ambulance. Damage to the Pettigrew car was estimated at $6,000 while the gas meter received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Marshall County Sheriff

Arrests

• On Monday, Ulises Potenciano Alvarez, 31, was arrested on a federal charge.

• On Tuesday, Kameron Karns, 18, was arrested for possession of marijuana-first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

• On Tuesday, John Robovsky, 34, was arrested on a warrant.

Accidents

• On May 9, a car driven by Eric Joseph Chaplin, 22, of Albion, was northbound on Marsh Avenue when the driver spotted a deer in the roadway and swerved to miss it only to encounter more deer resulting in the car leaving the roadway striking a mail box post and entering the east ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Chaplin car was estimated at $4,000 while the mail box post received an estimated $300 in damage.

• On May 12, a car driven by Dorothy Aleen Moore, 91, of Marshalltown, was southbound on Eastman Avenue stopped at the intersection with Highway 30 when the driver proceeded forward and collided with a car driven by Nikhil Modi, 31, of Marshalltown, which was traveling west on Highway 30. Moore was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,500 each.

• On May 15, a car driven by Jessie Jordan Fikes, 21, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Highway 14 when it struck a deer that ran onto the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Fikes car was estimated at $3,000.

Grundy County Sheriff

Arrests

• On May 12, Adam Rees, 36, of Reinbeck, was arrested for theft-second degree and burglary-third degree. Rees remains in jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. He has also been charged with a parole violation.

• On May 12, Ashley Rees, 32, of Reinbeck, was arrested for theft-second degree and burglary-third degree. Rees remains in jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

• On May 17, Gary Susie, 36, of Beaman, was arrested for operating while under the influence-second offense. Susie remains in jail in lieu of a $7,500 bond.

• On May 18, Travis Goodale, 22, of Gowrie, was arrested on Highway 20 and charged with driving while barred, possession of a controlled substance-second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false identification information and speeding. Goodale was released on a $1,500 cash bond.

Accidents

• On May 18, a vehicle driven by Jacee Chesick, 18, of Conrad, was eastbound on Highway 175 east of C Avenue when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the north ditch damaging the mail box post and barbed wire fence. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Chesick vehicle was estimated at $4,000. The accident remains under investigation.

• On May 4, a vehicle driven by Logan Havlik, 19, of New Hampton, was westbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Havlik vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

• On May 4, a vehicle driven by Rachel Edittu, 35, of Eldora, was westbound on Highway 175 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Edittu vehicle was estimated at $2,000. A vehicle driven by Kathleen Sams, 24, of Whitten, was eastbound on Highway 175 when it struck the same deer that was laying in its lane. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sams vehicle was estimated at $1,000.
