Court — Monday

• Victor Carrillo Jr. made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-first offense charge, a speeding charge and a no valid driver’s license charge. The public defender’s office was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Javier Gonzalez Torres made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug. 14. Bond will continue as posted.

• Jessica Rae Stanton made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge. Ray Starks was appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug. 14.

• Russell Allan Fisher made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order/contempt of court charge. The contempt hearing is scheduled for 9:30 am. on Aug. 24. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party.

• Steven Fisk Wilcox made an initial appearance on a no insurance-accident charge and a leaving the scene of an accident charge. Wilcox pleaded guilty to both charges. The fine on the no insurance charge is $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735. The fine on the leaving the scene charge is $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and $55 for a total of $175.75. All payments are due within 30 days.

• Maurice Montez Tarver made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug. 7.

• Lonnie Allen Hill made an initial appearance on a interference with official acts charge, an eluding charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a possession of marijuana-third or subsequent offense charge, a possession of cocaine with intent to deliver charge, a possession of amphetamine with intent to deliver charge and a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug. 3. Bond is set at $25,000. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court within 60 days.

• Rickey Dustin Hawkins Jr. made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. Hawkins pleaded guilty and the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days.

Arrests

• On Friday, Todd Sorantino, 47, of Conrad, was arrested on E Avenue south of D-67 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sorantino posted bond and was released.

Accidents

• On Friday, a vehicle driven by Benjamin Pierce, 31, of Urbandale, was eastbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Pierce vehicle was estimated at $8,000.

• On Thursday, a pickup driven by Matthew Michel, 36, of St. Joseph, Mo., was eastbound on Highway 20 towing a travel trailer when a deer entered the roadway and struck the driver’s side causing damage down the side of the truck. Then the deer jumped into the air striking the front of the travel trailer where the deer broke through the fiberglass coming to rest inside of the travel trailer causing damage to both the exterior and interior of the trailer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Michel pickup and travel trailer was estimated at $25,000.

• On Thursday, a vehicle driven by Steven Christiansen, 37, of Des Moines, was westbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Christiansen vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

• On Thursday, an SUV driven by Ian Kenrick, 21, of Mitchellville, was westbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Kenrick SUV was estimated at $7,000.
