• Kalalizi Jean Baptiste Madogo made an initial appearance on a murder-first degree charge. The public defender’s office is appointed as counsel. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Jan. 31. Bond is set at $1,000,000 cash only.

• Julian Estrada Jr. made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. Jeff Hazen is appointed as counsel. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the Administrative Law Judge. Estrada is being held without bond.

• Ivan Rodriguez Jimenez made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing charge. The contempt hearing is rescheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 8. Christian Stickrod will continue as counsel. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only. A new no-contact order has been issued for the protected party. A gun right prohibition has been ordered.

• James Henry Garske made an initial appearance on a operating while under the influence-third or subsequent offense charge, an open container charge and a failure to maintain control charge. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 7. Garske is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office within 48 hours. A substance abuse evaluation is ordered with the results submitted to the court.

• Alicia Marie Kinzenbaw made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 26.

Accidents

• On Monday, a car driven by Elijah Alexander Danielson, 25, of Marshalltown, was traveling on Main Street Road when it struck a deer causing severe front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Danielson car was estimated at $5,000.

• On Wednesday, Jan. 19, a car driven by Curtis Lyle Cecak, 35, of Marshalltown, was northbound on Zeller Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Cecak car was estimated at $8,000.

• On Thursday, Jan. 13, a car driven by Cody Douglas Walters, 24, of Marshalltown, was eastbound on Marshalltown Boulevard when a deer jumped onto the roadway from the south ditch and was struck sustaining front end damage on the driver’s side. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Walters car was estimated at $3,000.
