Skeie: All natural… no artificial colors added

AMES – See the fascinating world of “macro photography,” extreme close-up photography of small subjects, by Des Moines artist Cindy Skeie through July 4 in the Pioneer Room, Memorial Union, Iowa State Campus. From the brilliant colors of flowers, to comical bugs and the complex world of fungus, Skeie will open your eyes to the intricate beauty that exists in nature.

Skeie has traveled to Central America several times, discovering the spectacular world that exists in rain forests and tide pools. But, she is still surprised at what she finds in her own backyard in Des Moines, continually making new discoveries for beautiful shots.

Skeie sells her photographs at art fairs and festivals in the Midwest, and will be at the Reiman Garden’s Art Fair on July 17 and The Octagon Art Festival on Sept. 25, both in Ames.

Roy Cacek: Light, Color, Form

Pixelated images are recreated on canvas by Roy Cacek in his recent paintings can be seen through July10 in the Gallery, Memorial Union, ISU. Inspired by the mosaics of Italy and the geometric works of Chuck Close, he paints thousands of squares, utilizing up to fifty colors in each work. This technique creates a synthesis of abstraction and realism, depending on if you are up close, or view the painting from far away. His subject matter is drawn from urban settings and ranges from cityscapes and night driving to portraiture.

Cacek has a MFA in Painting and Drawing from Drake University. He has exhibited his work extensively in the Midwest. He was included in the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art Exhibition and the publication Studio Visit Magazine volume 25. Cacek lives and works in Des Moines.

The Pioneer Room and Gallery are located on the third floor. The Memorial Union is on the ISU campus at 2229 Lincoln Way in Ames. For open viewing times, call 515-296-6848.
