Two die in Tama crash in police chase

TAMA — Two persons were killed in the residential section of East 4th Street in Tama in a crash reported just before midnight, Friday. Drivers Troy C. Marvin, 31, Cedar Rapids, and Ian L. Halverson, 25, Tama, were identified as the victims by the Iowa State Patrol.

The patrol report said Marvin was the driver of Chevrolet pickup truck which was fleeing from Tama Police. The Marvin vehicle struck the Halverson Chevrolet Impala broadside on the driver’s side with both vehicles rolling several times and striking a utility pole east of the Beautiful- East 4th Street intersection.

Electrical service was out to what appeared to be the primarily the south and east side beginning at U.S. Highway 63 (State Street).

Alliant Energy was summoned to the scene because live wires were reported over the vehicles and to restore power.

A young child was reported to be in a nearby apartment house and was on a device requiring electrical power.

Tama firefighters and ambulance personnel were assisted by mutual aid from Toledo Fire Department and Ambulance Service.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
