Iowa Legal Aid

• Annual budget: $676,922 (Cedar Rapids Regional Office)

• Number of clients served on an annual basis: In 2016, Iowa Legal Aid closed 152 cases which impacted 378 household members – 168 of whom were children.

Iowa Legal Aid ensures that low-income individuals and families have their basic needs met, such as safe and stable housing, financial stability, protection from domestic violence and access to health care.

Iowa Legal Aid was formed in 1977 through the merger of four existing legal aid programs located in Dubuque, Iowa City, Waterloo and Council Bluffs. In 2003, the organization merged with the Legal Aid Society of Polk County. Since then Iowa Legal Aid has been the only statewide provider of free civil legal assistance, serving residents of all 99 counties in Iowa. Iowa Legal Aid now has regional offices in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Ottumwa, Sioux City and Waterloo. Iowa Legal Aid staff also conducts monthly outreach at the downtown Marshalltown MICA office on the third Thursday afternoon (at 1 p.m.) of every month.
