Colfax

• Pouncing, nibbling and rolling around with his sisters in a glass enclosure, lion club Jabari has been serving up the perfect amount of cuteness to Blank Park Zoo visitors since they were born Nov. 14. Probably unaware to the big city lion, Jabari has some deep ties to small-town Jasper County thanks to a Colfax couple. When the zoo announced they would hold a fundraiser to name the three cubs, Ellen and Charlie O’Donnell knew they had to participate as the cubs were born on their anniversary. Ellen chose the name Jabari after she heard the story of the cub and his struggle for life as he was the runt of the three survivors. — Jasper County Tribune

The club will serve Drake’s neighborhood as part of the school’s mission and Drake student’s will be able to volunteer, study from and collaborate with the Boys and Girls Clubs. — The Times-Delphic
