Marshalltown men sentenced to federal prison

All pleaded guilty to meth trafficking

CEDAR RAPIDS — Three Marshalltown men are sentenced to federal prison for trafficking for trafficking methamphetamine.

Juan Carlos Martínez, 28, Manuel Fujarte, 34, and John Minteer, 45, all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams of meth in U.S. District Court Tuesday.

All three admitted to conspiring to distribute ice meth across northern Iowa between the fall of 2014 and the fall of 2016.

Additionally, while on probation in Marshall County prior to his arrest, Martínez went to a Pleasant Hill daycare with a gun to contact his ex-wife and child. He did so in violation of a no-contact order.

Authorities said Martínez brandished the gun and refused to drop it after police arrived. He was tased, taken into custody and later convicted of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm as a felon in Polk County District Court.

Martínez was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison, Fujarte was sentenced to 21 years months and Minteer to 19 years. All were sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Linda Reade in Cedar Rapids. There is no parole in the federal system.

The three men are currently being held in U.S. Marshal custody until they can be transported to prison. After serving their terms, the trio must also serve a five-year term of supervised release.
