Woman charged with forgery

McDole

Earlier this week Marshalltown police arrested a woman for forgery and took her to Marshall County Jail, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.

Natasha Kay McDole, 19, was seen on a local financial institution’s video cashing a fraudulent check for $764.78.

Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD said the case was forwarded to them from Cedar Rapids police. A Cedar Rapids business had notified authorities their business account numbers from a Cedar Rapids bank had been used to generate fraudulent checks. The checks had been cashed in Marshalltown, so the CRPD asked the MPD to investigate. Batterson said the case was solved by examining banking documents and surveillance videos which led the MPD to request a warrant for McDole’s arrest.

At her preliminary hearing, a magistrate ordered McDole held on $5,000 cash/surety bond and also appointed her a public defender. Her preliminary hearing is Jan. 25.
